Use Re-check on the report. It reads the pages your flagged links were on, looks at where each link leads now, and makes a new report set against the one you started from. A finding is called resolved only when Link Signals has seen for itself that the link, or its page, has gone.
What each result means
| What was seen | It is recorded as | Counted as fixed? |
|---|---|---|
| The link, or the page it was on, has gone | Resolved | Yes |
| The link is still there but no longer flagged | No longer flagged | No. Nothing was removed, and the note shows how it was flagged before and what the check found now |
| The link is still there and still flagged | Still flagged (a reviewed link is reopened) | No. The note says what was seen |
| The page could not be read, or the other site would not answer | Left as it was | No. That tells us nothing, so it is tried again later |
Marking a finding reviewed never resolves it. Reviewed is your word, and it is a request to check. Resolved is the tool’s record of what it saw.
Three ways to confirm
- Re-checkOn the report’s Overview tab choose Re-check the flagged links, or Only the ones I’ve reviewed. It reads up to 60 links at a time, most urgent first. You do not have to mark anything first.
- Let the next check do itOn the next scan or monitoring check of the site, each reviewed link is read again. Up to 40 reviewed links are looked at in one check, and an account can keep up to 300 marked for one site. These reads do not use your link allowance.
- Scan againA rescan reads the whole site, so it also finds anything new. It lists the links that are no longer flagged, with what was seen when their pages were read again.
Check the evidence
- The numbers at the top of the report and the cards follow the re-check, and the original report is left exactly as it was.
- The Overview tiles count what is open, waiting for a re-check, fixed and still flagged.
- The Sites page shows a re-check as its own green check, so the history never loses what an earlier scan found. See see how a site is changing.
- On a monitored site, its stored findings are brought into line, so the next check does not start from results you have already fixed.
If a finding comes back or stays
A finding that stays flagged after you marked it reviewed is not an error. The page was read again and the link still leads somewhere flagged. Check that your change reached the live page and that a cache is not serving the old one. A resolved or no-longer-flagged link that turns up flagged again is reopened automatically.
Your site’s LinkSignal score moves too, but not at the moment you mark or re-check. The points come back when a later scan records the link as gone or no longer flagged. LinkSignal is Link Signals’ own metric, worked out only from what this tool finds, and it is not connected to any search engine or third-party score.
Questions
Why is a link I removed still in the report?
A report is a saved record of one moment, so it does not change when you edit your site. Re-check it, or scan again, and the new report shows the link as gone.
Does adding nofollow count as fixed?
No. The link is still on the page, so it is not resolved. If the next look no longer flags it, it appears as no longer flagged. If it is still flagged, the note says the marker stops ranking credit but visitors can still reach the link.
How long should I wait before I re-check?
Until the change is live and any cache has been cleared. A re-check reads the live page, so it sees what a visitor would see at that moment, not what you saved in your editor.
Open a report, fix what you can and re-check just those links.
