A re-check is a short, targeted pass over what a report already flagged. After you have removed or replaced links, you want to know whether the changes worked. Running a full scan to find out would take a long time and use a lot of your monthly allowance on pages that were never in question.
What it does
A re-check takes the findings saved in a report, reads the page each link was found on, and classifies the link afresh. The new report leaves out what has gone and updates what is still a problem, and is set against the original. You can re-check every flagged link or only the ones you have marked reviewed.
| It finds | It does |
|---|---|
| The link is gone | Leaves it out of the new report and records it as resolved. |
| The link is still there but no longer flagged | Leaves it out of the new report and records it as no longer flagged, not as fixed. |
| The link is still flagged | Keeps it, updated. |
| The site won’t answer | Leaves it exactly as it was. |
What changes
The report itself is changed, so every later view of it starts from the new state, including the summary counts. If the site is also on monitoring, its stored verdicts are brought into line, so the next monitoring check does not start from findings you have already fixed.
Limits
- A re-check reads up to 60 flagged links at a time, most urgent first, in priority order.
- Only one re-check can run for a report at once.
- The links actually looked at count against your monthly allowance, like any other check. If the allowance has run out, a re-check does not start.
Common misunderstandings
- A re-check does not find new problems. It looks only at what the report already holds. Run a scan, or use monitoring, to find new ones.
- A link on an unreachable page cannot be proved fixed. If the page cannot be read, the finding stays.
- Re-checking is not the same as ignoring. A re-check never hides a finding that is still a problem.

Questions
How is it different from a scan?
A scan reads the pages in your sitemap and finds every outbound link. A re-check reads only the pages with flagged links and so is much quicker.
What does a result of resolved mean?
The link is gone, or is no longer flagged. See reviewed and resolved.
How this counts in your LinkSignal
A re-check makes its own report and does not change the LinkSignal of the scan it was run on. Findings it confirms as fixed stop costing points once a scan records them. See the LinkSignal overview for the rows. LinkSignal is Link Signals’ own metric, worked out only from what this tool finds, and it is not connected to any search engine or third-party score.
Run a scan and find where these show up on your own site.
