Reviewed and resolved

Two different things. Reviewed is your word. Resolved is ours, after we read the page again and the link has gone. A link still there but no longer flagged is shown separately and not counted as fixed.

These words describe where a finding stands once you have started to act on it. They are kept apart on purpose. One records what you say, and the other records what Link Signals has been able to confirm.

Reviewed

Marking a finding reviewed tells Link Signals that you have dealt with it, whether by removing the link, replacing it or deciding it is fine. It is saved to your account for that site, so it carries across scans and monitoring checks. A finding that is only reviewed is still waiting: nothing about the link has been confirmed yet.

Resolved

The next scan, monitoring check or re-check reads the page again before anything is called resolved, so a link is never marked fixed on anyone’s word. A finding is resolved only when the link is no longer on the page, or its page has gone. A link that is still on the page but no longer flagged is shown as no longer flagged. It is not counted as fixed, because nothing was removed, and the note beside it shows how it was flagged before and what the check found now. If it is still a problem, it is reopened and shown as still flagged.

StatusMeaning
ReviewedYou have dealt with it. Waiting to be checked.
ResolvedThe link, or the page it was on, has gone.
No longer flaggedStill on the page, but the latest check does not flag it. Not counted as fixed.
Still flaggedChecked again, and still a problem.

Limits

One account can have up to 300 links marked reviewed for one site. In a single scan or monitoring check, up to 40 reviewed links are looked at again. A re-check can take up to 60 links at once.

Common misunderstandings

  • Reviewed is not the same as ignored. An ignored finding is left out of alerts and counts. A reviewed one is expected to be checked.
  • Resolved means the link was removed or its page has gone. It never means the destination was fixed: a link that is still there and no longer flagged is shown as no longer flagged instead.
  • If the site refuses the check, the status stays as it was. Link Signals does not guess.
  • A trusted link is neither. On a paid plan you can say a flagged link belongs on the page. It is still read each scan, counted as safe, and shown on a rescan as trusted, never as resolved or fixed.

Questions

Why was my finding reopened?

The page was read again and the link still leads somewhere flagged. Check that the change you made reached the live page, and that no cache is serving the old one.

Do I have to mark things reviewed?

No, but it lets Link Signals look at the ones you have worked on first. See mark a finding reviewed.

How this counts in your LinkSignal

A resolved finding stops costing points in your site’s external LinkSignal once a scan records the link as gone or no longer flagged. Marking a finding as reviewed does not. See the LinkSignal overview for the rows. LinkSignal is Link Signals’ own metric, worked out only from what this tool finds, and it is not connected to any search engine or third-party score.
