FAQ

Can I ignore a finding?

Ignoring is for links you have checked and are happy with. It changes how a finding is counted, never what was found.

Updated 13 October 2026By Dean Cruddace, Founder, Link Signals

Yes, on a monitored site. Open the finding in the site’s report and choose Ignore this finding: it leaves the flagged count, the site’s status and the alert emails, and its verdict stays exactly as it was. A one-off scan report has no ignore button. It has Mark reviewed, which does a different job.

What ignoring does

QuestionAnswer
Is it counted as flagged? No. It is left out of the flagged count and the site’s status.
Does it trigger alerts? No, and it is left out of the weekly summary’s count.
Is it still visible?Yes, in the Ignored list at the bottom of the report, with the date and the verdict it had.
Does the verdict change? No. Only whether it is counted and alerted.
Where does it apply? To that destination on every page of that site. Your other monitored sites are not affected.
How many can I ignore?Up to 500 per site.

When an ignore stops holding

An ignore holds while the link is no more serious than when you ignored it. If a later check finds it more serious, for example Needs review has become Not safe, the ignore lapses, the finding returns to the list and an alert can be sent. If the link is removed from the site, the ignore is forgotten, and a link added back later is judged afresh.

When ignoring is right, and when it is not

  • Right: you have opened the link, understood why it was flagged, and it belongs, such as a regulator cited in an article about gambling. That is a false positive, and ignoring keeps the count honest.
  • Not right: the link is spam, hidden or injected. Remove it, because ignoring only stops it counting.
  • Not right: the domain behind it has lapsed or is not registered. Replace the link, because anyone can take that domain over.
  • Not right: you are not sure. A finding you have not understood is better left open.

Questions

Can I ignore a finding on a free plan?

Ignoring belongs to monitoring, so it is available wherever monitoring is, including the free trial on one site. Without it, Mark reviewed on a finished report is the way to record a decision. See try monitoring free.

Is ignoring the same as adding nofollow?

No. Ignoring changes only how Link Signals counts and alerts. Nothing on your site changes, so a followed link still passes ranking credit. A rel marker is an edit to the page itself.

Where do I find what I have ignored?

At the bottom of the site’s report, in the Ignored list. Each entry shows the date and the verdict it had, and Restore puts it back.

Keep the count honest

Add a site to monitoring and ignore only the links you have checked yourself.
